- Dry Clutches. Firstly, the clutch is the part of the motorcycle that engages and disengages the engine from the transmission. It's a part of the motorcycle that undergoes high stresses and needs continuous maintenance 🔧

All #MotoGP teams use dry clutches instead of wet clutches and there are several reasons why they do. Dry clutches are termed as dry because they are not bathed in oil. Due to the absence of oil in the clutch, oil drag is reduced, meaning less power from the engine is wasted. Also, the engine oil stays cleaner for longer as the material from the clutch plates does not contaminate it! ✊

However, with no oil to act as a cooling liquid, the clutch pack can become extremely hot causing it to wear out quickly. Also, with no oil to dampen the engagement between the clutch plates, the clutch feel can be grabbier than wet clutches making it harder to modulate ⚠️ While the clutch is crucially important, it is only used once during the race, just at the start! Grand Prix riders do not use the clutch for up and down shifts as quickshifters and blippers take care of that! ✊
